Giving Tuesday Keeps Families Together

This Giving Tuesday, our community once again showed extraordinary compassion for pets in need. Thanks to all of you who shared, liked, contributed, and supported us last week. You helped provide over $4,500 that’ll go toward supporting our pantry with thousands of pounds of pet food, cat litter, and pet supplies, helping local cats and dogs in need stay fed and cared for this winter!
MCHA’s Emergency Pet Food and Supply Pantry provides essential nutrition to pets who would otherwise go without. Without this support, many pets would face abandonment or shelter surrender. These animals depend on us, and we depend on you.
To date, we are on track to distribute approximately 30,000 pounds of pet food by the year’s end. This support extends to thousands of pets in Monroe County, but the number of pets needing our help continues to rise.
Most families in our community are feeling the strain of higher living costs right now. When budgets tighten, pets often pay the price. Before reaching a breaking point, many people who are already struggling choose to go without so their pets can eat. Our food program protects pets from hunger and supports families who are doing everything they can to keep their animals safe. This resource gives families stability while we all navigate a difficult time.
Every Giving Tuesday gift received is making an immediate and powerful impact, and for that, we are so grateful. However, we fell a little short of our goal amount needed to support the growing demand this winter. If you weren’t able to participate on Giving Tuesday, there’s still time to help. Donations of any amount may still be made at monroehumane.org/giving-tuesday. There is no end to what we can accomplish together, especially when it comes to making this a better world for the animals we care so deeply about. Thank you for caring for the pets in our community!

MCHA Puts Lilly Scholars Network Grant to Task

In 2025, through October 31, MCHA issued 172 vouchers for dogs and 129 vouchers for cats for a total of 301 vouchers. Because of the Lilly Scholars Network Lead Forward Community Grant, we were able to extend $12,470 in funding assistance to get 301 animals fixed! In addition, we fully expect to meet our original goal of 372 vouchers by year end.
The numbers speak for themselves—according to the Bissell Pet Foundation, a single unfixed female cat and her offspring can produce more than 2 million kittens in eight years. Similarly, one unspayed female dog and her offspring can produce up to 67,000 puppies in six years. To put this into perspective, more than 1.5 million pets are euthanized in shelters each year. Taken together, MCHA’s 301 vouchers could prevent millions of unwanted animals over the next eight years.
Please join us in thanking the Lilly Scholars Network for supporting such an important effort. This investment at such a crucial time helps pets who have no voice and families who want to do right by their animals, and creates a positive and lasting ripple effect, initiating real change in our communities at a time when shelters are bursting at the seams.

Honoring Precious Through Our Pet Remembrance Tree

MCHA recently lost our beloved cat, Precious. We, of course, created a remembrance tag to honor the incredible impact Precious made on the hearts and lives of our entire staff. While nothing can replace the presence of our sweet cat, this tribute will help keep his memory alive. We love you, Precious!
If you or someone you know has recently lost a pet, our Pet Remembrance Tree is a great way to create a lasting tribute in their memory.
Your gift not only honors your pet but also supports MCHA’s lifesaving programs that help thousands of pets in our community each year.
