Thank you to all for the interest in our summer camps!

Due to a staff transition, we will not be able to host camp this summer. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Since the summer of 2006, MCHA has offered our very popular Paws and Claws Camp to the youth in our community. Children today are companion animals’ guardians of tomorrow. Humane Education programs like Paws and Claws Camp are fun-filled ways to help kids understand the importance of kindness, responsibility and respect of animals and others. The Monroe County Humane Association’s Paws and Claws camp offers youth a memorable opportunity to be up close and learn about animals of all shapes and sizes, while learning to be compassionate, caring and thoughtful individuals. Featuring daily interactions with trained and screened MCHA Animal Ambassadors, registered VIPaws therapy animals, and shelter animals at Bloomington Animal Care and Control, there is something for every youth animal lover at this camp!

Children that attend Paws and Claws camp will participate in animal shelter enrichment, socializing with a variety of animals and learning other ways to help animals in our community. Daily games, crafts, visits from professionals in animal related fields rounds out the afternoon of camp. Campers will get the opportunity to spend time at Bloomington Animal Care and Control, our local animal shelter located next to MCHA, to better understand overpopulation, the importance of spaying or neutering, difficult animal behaviors, dog training, grooming and overall responsible and respectful animal ownership. Camp sessions are one week long and offered for kids between the ages of 6 and 14. Camp is limited to 12 campers per week, so be sure to register early.

Do you have an older child that is interested in animal care and being a camp counselor in training? Past Paws and Claws Campers, past members of MCHA Animal Advocates Club and other youth members, ages 14-17, can attend camp to be a leader and Counselor in Training (CIT). A CIT helps the camp leader with games, activities, crafts and supervision of MCHA animal ambassadors.
