About the Clinic

The Monroe County Humane Association Nonprofit Veterinary Clinic operates on a low-cost model, but is not a free clinic.  Our diagnostic services and medication inventory is limited, but will meet the needs of most pets suffering from minor medical injuries or illnesses. Our clinic is staffed primarily by volunteers, and if our clinic cannot treat your pet, you will be referred to a full-service clinic.

Because we operate with as small of a staff or volunteer list as possible to keep our costs low, many roles for staff or volunteers will overlap.  This can occasionally cause some appointment times to run longer. We also allow drop-in clients, although clients with appointments are given priority.  These policies can cause a wait of up to 30 minutes, in some cases.

Any Veterinarian practicing as part of the Clinic is a licensed and insured Veterinarian in the state of Indiana.

Appointments and Clients:

The MCHA Nonprofit Veterinary Clinic will provide injury and illness treatment to pets whose owners can provide proof of an income qualifying, government assisted program. Owners will be required to show proof of government assistance prior to their appointment at registration.

The MCHA Minor Medical Clinic will provide Vaccination and Wellness treatments including vaccinations, nail trims, deworming, flea treatment, and microchips.  For vaccination, nail trim, or microchipping, there is an additional $15 fee per appointment (not per animal).

Costs:

The MCHA Minor Medical Clinic operates on a low-cost model.  There is an exam fee of $10 per appointment, per pet. Diagnostics cost a minimum of $12 per test, while medication costs are between $10 and $40 depending on the size and need for the pet.

If you have a limited amount of funds at the start of your appointment, please make this clear at registration. The Veterinary team will work to keep the costs of your pet’s diagnostic and treatments under your defined limit.  Any medical needs that cost more than this, will be discussed before treatment or being prescribed.

Payment is required at the time of services, or before medication is dispensed.  Non-payment of services will result in the client being banned from all MCHA clinic and voucher services until payment is made in full.

We reserve the right to refuse services.

Difficult Animal Policy

MCHA recoginizes that there are pets who by virtue either of training or lack of training and soliciation, especially in combination with a genetic predisposition to be wary of strangers, other animal can pose a serious threat in a veterinary environment. We will make every effort to treat your pet safely, and keep all staff and other clients safe. If you are concerned that your pet may pose a risk, please let staff know when making your appoitment. Please know that there may be additional costs related to the safety of your pet, which may or may not require medication. It is our goal to treat every animal safely, with as little extra handling or medication as possible.  In extreme cases, we will refer that you take your pet elsewhere for services.
