Emergency Housing & the Fundraising Challenge

Meet Leo! Leo is currently one of the pets that MCHA has in temporary emergency housing. Leo has been living in his owner’s car. While his owner has been able to stay in an overnight shelter, it was not cat friendly. During the most recent cold-weather snap, Leo’s mom was worried that it would be too cold for him at night and came to us to help arrange emergency care until she had a safe place for both of them. We have been caring for Leo with a foster parent for the last three weeks. Before Leo could stay in a foster-home environment, it was imperative that Leo be vetted beforehand, including vaccinations, flea treatment and testing for FIV/FeLV. About the Renovations at the Monroe County Humane Association

In 2015, the Bloomington City Council approved the use of Tax Increment Financing (TIF) to support the renovation of the Animal Control facility at 3410 South Walnut Street. The project includes new construction that will replace the current stray animal housing to improve animal housing, renovating the current community room into a volunteer space for BACC volunteers, and renovating the current stray animal holding into animal care spaces and a community room. The MCHA suite will be renovated and include updated flooring throughout and revise the layout to have a door on the West side of the facility, and expand the program room by an additional fifty square feet.
