Success Stories

Millions of animals are taken to shelters every year. Although many of these animals meet a grim fate because of the lack of adoptive families and overpopulation, thousands of excited owners adopt pets each year. The joy an animal companion can bring into one's home is immeasurable. Their unique personalities, quirky habits and unconditional love have brought happiness to countless pet owners.

Every success story that results from an adoption breathes more life and compassion into the community - and gives a homeless animal a nurturing home. If you have a success story about an adoption or rescue, please add it here. Spread the message that loving, homeless animals are waiting to become "success stories" of their own.

Kindred Spirits is a new radio program being developed about the human-animal bond. Find out more about this show and learn how you can share your success story on the air.

Ben (formerly Rampart)
When I first saw Ben he had practically no fur and was the only dog in the long line of cages who wasn't barking his head off. Instead he was just sitting quietly, looking pretty depressed, but as soon as he saw us he started to wag his tail and even got up enough energy to lick my hand, which for an abandoned chow is about as much as you can ask for! Three months later Ben is getting poofier by the day and gets stopped by children and adults ali...

Jake
I adopted Jake in Sept. 2005. He has been by my side ever since. I don't know what I would do without him. While I lived in Bloomington, Jake typically spent 5 days a week at Canine Companions Doggy Daycare. We have since moved to Bloomfield and trips to Canine Companions are a special occassion for him. In July 2006, Jake started swimming and in August he joined the sport of dock jumping and in October 2006 he finished 3rd in the novice div...

Sophie + Josh
I adopted Josh and Sophie (originally Darla) on my 25th birthday last year. They were brother and sister. I had originally gone to adopt one cat, but could not resist bringing Sophie home too. They are so amazing together. Josh is a cuddle hungry cat, he loves to type on the computer and gets along great with dogs. While Sophie is independent, loves to get in the bathtub and will cry until you turn on the water for her and she hates dogs. Co...

Isolde and Musetta (used to be Apple and Momma)
I'm a new graduate student at IU, and as this is my first time living alone, and I've always been a cat person, I decided now was a good time to adopt a cat. I took quite a while deciding, and settled on a cat named Apple. I then noticed that she came as part of a duo that the very caring staff wanted to leave together. Long story short, I adopted them both, and couldn't have made a better decision. Izzy and Etta are extremely well-behaved, a...

Roberta, formerly Gracie Lou.
When I first moved to the Bloomington are to attend Grad school, I new I needed a pet with which to share my home. I visited the shelter and the pet-of-the-week was 'Gracie Lou'. Her description listed her as the sweetest cat in the world, and she truely is. Roberta, as she is known now, is a pudgy little princess. She loves to snuggle on the couch and sleep curled up next to me. I encourage anyone looking for a pet to adopt!...
