Success Stories

Millions of animals are taken to shelters every year. Although many of these animals meet a grim fate because of the lack of adoptive families and overpopulation, thousands of excited owners adopt pets each year. The joy an animal companion can bring into one's home is immeasurable. Their unique personalities, quirky habits and unconditional love have brought happiness to countless pet owners.

Every success story that results from an adoption breathes more life and compassion into the community - and gives a homeless animal a nurturing home. If you have a success story about an adoption or rescue, please add it here. Spread the message that loving, homeless animals are waiting to become "success stories" of their own.

Kindred Spirits is a new radio program being developed about the human-animal bond. Find out more about this show and learn how you can share your success story on the air.

Ruby
Ruby (formerly known as Rhonda) has brought so much joy to my life. She was very shy at first, but she has come out of her shell. She goes to daycare every day and we take long walks together. She is a very calm, loving girl. She used to shy away from strangers, but now she approaches them with her head up and her tail wagging expecting kind words and affection. I could not ask for a better friend!...

Greta and Gracie
My husband and I were very sad after losing our 10 year old cat to kidney disease. I was so used to having a cat, I went out a week later and looked at the cats in PetsSmart. I noticed Gracie (original name Cosette) first. She was so cute and playful. Then, I saw this sweet, black cat in a cage below Cosette. We fell in love with both of them. They have given us so much love and entertainment in the past two years. Thank you!...

Keet
I adopted my cat in early 2005. I believe her name at the shelter was Suzette but I renamed her Keet. She has been the most wonderful pet I've ever had and a joy to be around for the past 2 1/2 years. Every day spent with her is a gift and I thank you for the opportunity to adopt such a wonderful animal. ...

Chiquita Bonita Olifante Cafe
Chica was a fluffy little puppy in the shelter when we went to choose a pet. We fell in love with her immediately, and took her home as soon as we could. Someone had left her and her two siblings along the road, and we were the lucky ones to have her with us!
Chica has been a wonderful part of our family for 12 years, and we are hoping for many more! As you can see, Chica still looks like a young puppy!...

Tobey
Tobey (known as Harvey at the shelter) was a rowdy little puppy and was not at all what we were looking for, but I soon fell in love with him the minute I spent one-on-one time with him. It has been a great experience getting to know him as he grows older and I would not change anything about the decision I made to adopt! Tobey was a great addition to my animal-loving family! He has plenty of pals....
