Success Stories

Millions of animals are taken to shelters every year. Although many of these animals meet a grim fate because of the lack of adoptive families and overpopulation, thousands of excited owners adopt pets each year. The joy an animal companion can bring into one's home is immeasurable. Their unique personalities, quirky habits and unconditional love have brought happiness to countless pet owners.

Every success story that results from an adoption breathes more life and compassion into the community - and gives a homeless animal a nurturing home. If you have a success story about an adoption or rescue, please add it here. Spread the message that loving, homeless animals are waiting to become "success stories" of their own.

Kindred Spirits is a new radio program being developed about the human-animal bond. Find out more about this show and learn how you can share your success story on the air.

Henry
I just wanted to let you know that Morpheus, now Henry, is doing just fine at his new home. He has managed to tame the dog into submission and seems pretty content with his new life. Thank you for taking such good care of him until he found me......

Yoshi
My boyfriend and I knew we wanted to add a dog to our family a long time ago. When we found a place that allowed dogs, we knew it was time to start looking! I logged into www.petfinder.com and began my search. It was important to find a dog that could get along with cats, as we already had one that we loved dearly! Upon reading a listing of a lab mix named "Reggie" who was found on the side of the highway, I had to contact his foster mom righ...

Sophie
Sophie was a stray and still in quarantine the first time we saw her. After a week of waiting and calling to make sure no one had claimed her, we were at the shelter as soon as it opened on the first morning she was available for adoption.
After nursing her through a case of heartworm, she perked up and became an instant member of our family. Sophie is the sweetest thing, loves everyone she meets, and we cannot imagine our life without her.<...

Nero, Sammy, Joy
Triple Success! A boy and a girl have lots of love to give and we found just the right dogs and cats to give it to. Nero and Sammy, our canine siblings (m & f), came into our family as 4 month old littermates. They were thrown away (!!??) on Zikes Road. Joy, our girl cat, came to us in much the same way. Every day, Nero, Sammy and Joy give boundless love to us. We are so lucky....

Sophie
After losing my best friend of 15 years (she was a diluted calico named Spook) in November, 2003, my husband and I couldn't stand not having a cat in our home.

We came to the shelter just to look. Sophie came out of her cage, immediately crawled up onto my husband's lap and started to purr. We were hooked!

She has brought such joy to our lives. She is so affectionate and LOVES to play - and take walks with my husband!...
