Success Stories

Millions of animals are taken to shelters every year. Although many of these animals meet a grim fate because of the lack of adoptive families and overpopulation, thousands of excited owners adopt pets each year. The joy an animal companion can bring into one's home is immeasurable. Their unique personalities, quirky habits and unconditional love have brought happiness to countless pet owners.

Every success story that results from an adoption breathes more life and compassion into the community - and gives a homeless animal a nurturing home. If you have a success story about an adoption or rescue, please add it here. Spread the message that loving, homeless animals are waiting to become "success stories" of their own.

Kindred Spirits is a new radio program being developed about the human-animal bond. Find out more about this show and learn how you can share your success story on the air.

Skipper
Look how spoiled our little 'Skipper' is already! He loves his big teddy bear almost as much as his new family loves him! When he's not lying on his big stuffed bear he's usually seen lying on one of our three grandkids. :-)

He is so well behaved, friendly, loving, and full of character. He and our dog Spenser became friends quickly (it took only a few hours to sort out doggie issues) and now are inseparable...

Lizzie
On 12/7/02, we lost a very sweet cat to renal failure. On the 11th, my husband couldn't resist stopping by the shelter to look at the cats & kittens. Lizzie (not her original name) snagged his sleeve through the cage bars. He lost his heart to her then & there. The next day, I went to check her out and make the final decision - and she made it for me! It must have helped that I was wearing my husband's jacket, as she jumped out of the cage i...

Sampson (his original name was Brownie)
I met Sampson (his name was Brownie at the time) at an open house of sorts that the "Pets Alive" organization held in a building on the downtown square. I signed the "angel list" for him and received a call a few days later, just before Christmas. The person told me that sadly Sampson's time was up and he was to be put down later that day. I immediately went to the shelter and adopted him. I wasn't sure that I was ready to have a dog yet, but...
