Humane Kids are AWESOME!

Humane kids are to be commended for their many acts of kindness and awareness for the humane treatment of all animals. The MCHA wants to make sure their efforts don't go unnoticed. Here we will keep a rolling list of all the wonderful things that Monroe County kids are doing to help the animals. They should serve as an inspiration to all of us!

July/August

Anna Weinberg (12 years old)
- Raised and donated $100 to the MCHA Shelter Fund by doing yard work

Haley Garl  (13 years old) - Made crafts that were sold at the MCHA booth at the Monroe County Fair to raise money for the MCHA Shelter Fund

Some stories just have to be shared and this remarkable little girl, Paige Plucker (7 yrs. old), is one of those stories. Paige decided to join up with the Pink Lemonade Brigade promotion with Crayons, Inc. , a company that produces all-natural beverages. Crayons, Inc., in an effort to  empower kids to support a charity, be artistic and be heard, put together a promotion to do just that. (Read the press release)

Paige contacted the company and set-up her lemonade stand to help support the Monroe County Humane Association.  Paige's Mom contacted us and let us know what she was doing and sent this picture. Needless to say, the MCHA staff was completely moved by this little girls' efforts and concern for the welfare of animals.  To top it all off, Paige wrote to the company after her very successful lemonade selling venture to tell them what she did and that she raised $137. See her e-mail below.

Remarkable things do come in small packages and Paige is one impressive little lady. Animal advocates no matter what age can and do make a difference.

E-mail from Paige to Crayon's, Inc.
Dear Mr. Lloyd and Mr. Seay,

I loved being in the Pink Lemonade Brigade and helping animals from the Monroe County Humane Association. I raised $137!! People thought Crayons was a very good drink. And I like Crayons. I drank about 8 cans!

We are going to look for other Crayons drinks at the supermarket.

At my stand, I gave out information about Crayons and the Humane Association. I also collected pop-tabs (from the cans) for the Ronald McDonald House. I also asked people to recycle their cans. I gave out cookies, too, to raise more money.

We have some cans left over. I'm going to drink some. We also might give some to the summer program at Boys & Girls Club, or Girls Inc,. or even to the summer camp at the Humane Association. (I'm going to that camp!)

Thank you for doing the Pink Lemonade Brigade to help living things that need help. I think I'm going to help a lot of dogs and cats and bunnies.

Sincerely,

Paige Plucker
