If you have lost or found a pet, following the below steps may increase your chances of a pet finding its way back to its owner:

1. Most importantly you should immediately contact the Bloomington Animal Care and Control at (812) 349-3492 to file a report.
2. Records of all the lost and found companion animals are kept on file at BACC. Many people bring found animals to the shelter if they cannot temporarily house them and animal control officers bring found companion animals to the Shelter as well, so be sure to call. Visit the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter regularly. If your companion animal is brought to the Shelter as a stray, she will be held for 5 full days.
3. Bring a photo of your lost or found companion animal to the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter to post on the lost animals bulletin board. Each week photos of missing companion animals are featured on "Pets Without Partners" on CATS channels 3 and 12.
4. Place a lost or found ad in the classified section of the local newspaper.
5. Post flyers picturing and describing your lost or found companion and your contact information at bus stops, schools, veterinary clinics, laundromats, and stores.
6. Alert the postal carrier, newspaper carriers, and your neighbors of your missing companion animal. Check with neighborhood children. They often will know your companion animal and may have seen her.
7. Lastly, as a free service to the community, the MCHA offers free web postings on our website of lost and found animals. This is a service and is not the main means of relocating an animal. It is important that you contact BACC directly and check the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter frequently.
