Tours of the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter
Do you have a small group that wants to learn more about animal welfare? Come
learn about the role our local animal shelter plays in helping the homeless
animals of Monroe County. Join the MCHA Education staff for a tour of the
City of
Bloomington Animal Shelter. Tours may be scheduled during normal shelter
operating hours:
Monday/ Wednesday/ Thursday/Saturday
12 - 5:00p.m. Tuesday/Friday 12 - 7:00p.m.

Your group will receive an age-appropriate presentation about animal welfare
issues facing our community, followed by a tour of the adoption center to view
the animals currently looking for new homes. Specific subject matter is flexible
to suit your needs, but all presentations will address pet overpopulation and
responsible pet care. All tours will meet at least one MCHA "Animal Ambassador" up close and
personal and may have limited hands-on interaction with appropriate shelter
animals.
Tours are available for grades K – 12 through the MCHA* and the maximum group
size per tour is 12 individuals. Groups of up to 25 people may be accommodated
by having half the group tour the shelter while the other half receives a
presentation and vice versa. One adult chaperone is required for every 5
children.
A $3 per person donation to the MCHA is requested for shelter tours with
funds raised going toward direct animal care and our education program.
Alternately, your group can gather supplies from the Shelter Wish List in lieu of a monetary
donation.
