Meet the MCHA Board of Directors

Our board consists of individuals from a variety of different backgrounds and skills who come together to guide the MCHA and uphold its mission of "leading, advocating and educating for animal welfare." The board has committed itself to shared values of having respect and integrity, exhibiting teamwork and collaboration, being responsive and innovative, and having courage and commitment for the MCHA.
John Keith - Chair

John joined the MCHA board after Jeff Lambright, also an MCHA board member, explained the MCHA’s mission as well as its need for volunteers. John is executive director of gift planning at the Indiana University Foundation.

John has been with the IU Foundation since 1997 and, after several years of commuting from Greenwood, moved to Bloomington in the spring of 2005 with his wife, Susan Yoon, and daughter Claire. Claire enjoys playing with her older "sibling", Reggie the cat. John received a BA in Religion from Wabash College in 1991, and became the third generation of his family to graduate from the IU School of Law- Bloomington in 1994.

Annemarie Sharp - Vice Chair
Annemarie became involved with the MCHA board in July 2007. While in college she was a volunteer at the Hannibal, Mo. animal shelter and witnessed first-hand the need for people to become more active in animal welfare issues. She hopes to assist the MCHA with securing additional funding through grants provided by corporations and foundations.
A native of St. Louis, Mo., Annemarie has six years of experience in fundraising at Indiana University. She joined the Advancement team at the IU School of Informatics in August of 2006. She received an MBA with a concentration in Finance from the IU Kelley School of Business in 2006. She holds undergraduate degrees in Psychology, Sociology, and Criminal Justice from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo. She and her husband Chip are blessed with the companionship of three dogs (Bratzke, Marshall, and Bailey) and two cats (Page and Chukie), all of which are rescued animals.
In her spare time Annemarie enjoys reading, needlepoint, poker, TV, movies, and sports. She and her husband particularly enjoy professional baseball and football. In fact, all of their pets are named after NFL players.

Virginia Metzger - Treasurer

Virginia joined the board in January 2006.  Virginia first worked with the board on the capital campaign major gifts committee and also served on the Search and Screen Committee for the current CEO.  She’s a life time dog lover and a long time supporter of the humane association and its mission of leading, advocating and educating for animal welfare.  Virginia is excited about MCHA’s collaborative efforts with other not-for-profits in the community.

Virginia has served on several not-for-profit boards including Girl’s Inc. serving as Treasurer and President, United Way of Monroe County serving as Secretary and Treasurer, and Middle Way House.  For her work on the United Way board, she was awarded the Mary Alice Gray Memorial Award.

For the last twenty years she’s been the CFO for WTIU-TV and WFIU-FM, the public broadcasting stations owned and operated by IU.

Prior to working at the stations, she worked in public accounting in the Bloomington area for several years but decided she‘d rather have a life.  She won the Elijah Watt Sells bronze medal for her performance on the 2003 CPA exam.   In a former life, she worked as a programmer, systems analyst, and project director for main frame computer applications at IU.  She has an undergraduate degree from IU in philosophy and math.

Virginia and her husband Michael cohabitate with their two Westies, Lucy and Desi.  Lucy was a rescue pup through Westie Rescue and Desi is her pal.
